Your treatment

When it comes to choosing a treatment option, no single treatment has been proved beyond doubt to have superior, long-term outcomes than any other.

This presents a dilemma for you as a patient and us as your team. It means that, together, we’ll explore all possibilities, weighing up the pros and cons. Then, with the help of your urologist and oncologist, decide on the treatment and the specialist you feel most comfortable with.

Not every treatment is suitable at every stage of the disease. For example, surgery to remove the prostate isn’t appropriate if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

However, whichever route you decide to follow, we’ll help you find the specialist with the experience to match.

Our expertise

At The Prostate Centre, you’re in safe hands. Between us, we’ve carried out more prostatectomies than any other UK private practice.

That’s because we focus on what we do best. It also means we don’t offer every treatment available. However, should you wish to explore other options, we do know who best to refer you to – whether that’s in London, elsewhere in the UK, or abroad.

While, our oncologists offer conformal radiotherapy, low-dose and high-dose brachytherapy and hormone therapy, or chemotherapy, our surgeons specialise in robotic prostatectomy (prostate removal), using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery with the latest robot technology.

NeuroSAFE:

NeuroSAFE is a surgical technique we can use during radical prostatectomy procedures. It allows us to assess the prostate’s surface for cancer cells in real time. By generating frozen section samples and analyzing them during surgery, we’re able to determine whether additional tissue removal is necessary. This gives us additional certainty, which helps to prevent unnecessary nerve removal, and improve post-surgery erectile function and urinary control.

da Vinci® Single Port surgical system

The da Vinci® Single Port is an advanced robotic surgical system that allows complex procedures to be performed through a single incision, less than 3cm wide.

With benefits including reduced pain, minimal scarring, faster recovery (and a shorter hospital stay, there are clear benefits for all patients. However, it’s particularly suitable for patient’s who have had previous abdominal surgeries, perhaps with extensive scar tissue, or for those unable to have multiple incisions.
